This hypnobirthing printout shows a diagram of the middle layer of the womb (the myometrium) and summarises what each layer is doing in physiological birth.
The uterus is a thick-walled, pear shaped organ with a dome-shaped top called the fundus, and a narrow, cylindrical neck at the bottom called the cervix.
The walls of the womb have three layers; the myometrium is the thick smooth muscle layer in the middle, which has three layers of muscle within it:
