As a NICU mum, I’d love to help lessen the potential trauma for other parents by spreading awareness about why baby might need special care after birth, and the ways that we can still feel like an empowered parent even when baby is poorly. I’ve created handouts which birth workers can download with a licence to print and share with families, and use as teaching tools to have conversations about NICU antenatally - or to help them support families at the time they are in NICU.

Being a NICU mama is like being part of a very sad - but also very proud - club (for me anyway). So I wanted to include NICU mothers in my range of birthy badges. And perhaps when we wear it, we might make connections and have shared understanding with other NICU mums who know what it's like.

A congratulations card for a new mother whose baby has been in NICU, or is still in NICU. Because even if her baby is poorly - she still grew and birthed them - and she deserves to be honoured for that. As a NICU mummy myself, I would have appreciated a card that reflected our postpartum experience, and congratulated me on the fact I got through it - and we got home in the end.
